This Sacred Moment

Have you ever felt like your life is traveling at the speed of light and you can’t catch up?

Like a vapor that is disappearing right before your eyes, leaving you desperate to make every second count while the wait for eternity seems so long?

All you know is that you want every day to serve a purpose. You want the chance to love others deeply while we are still here. Yet, the daily tasks before us always seem to call us away from what is most important. The sand in the hourglass keeps slipping through, and we can’t help but wonder how it went by so fast.

The Strange Paradox of Time

We look around and see more behind us than ahead of us. And yet, the best is still to come.

What a strange paradox this life is.

How quickly things can change in a moment, turning on a dime. The beauty and the awe, the wonder and the mystery, can take your breath away. And yet, how easily we can miss it.

The most precious things are too brief. The more we try to catch and hold them, the more they seem to flee.

But how priceless it is when we finally slow down, hit pause, and take a moment to look around and up to just say, “Thank You, Lord.”

Tracing His Hand

In those quiet moments, we can recall every good and perfect gift He has given and brought into our lives through the years. The tracing of His hand becomes more visible than ever before.

We find ourselves wanting others to know this same comfort and joy, and to see how good, loving, and faithful our God truly is. We long to praise Him more and more until our very last breath, cherishing Him with all of our hearts all day long. We have a lifetime of gratitude to thank Him with.

Oh, what a mix of awe and wonder resides right beside the agony and suffering we have known.

  • To be homesick for Heaven while He is still so near.

  • To long for our loved ones who are absent from us, yet still feel so close to our hearts.

  • To witness both the beauty and the brokenness of this life, knowing it is only a brief preview of the perfect one to come.

I am so thankful for His eternal presence that never changes with the time or season. He is the Rock of all our ages. He is the Ever-Present One who never leaves or forgets us, always remaining by our side on this journey home.

A Preview of Eternity

What a day it will be when we finally step into eternity. We will be forever freed from every burden, sorrow, pain, and separation. We will walk together with Him in His garden, sit at His banquet table, and dine in His presence. Universal beauty will fill our eyes, and the temple will be filled with His glory.

Pause for a moment right now. Breathe in the fullness of the life He has placed within you.

Know that He is already here in the sacredness of your life today. We are set apart for His purpose, and we forever belong to Him in every single step along our way. Do not allow the hard things of this temporary moment to keep you from seeing and enjoying His gift to you in the present.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, “Teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” — Psalm 90:12

Whenever we become overwhelmed by the challenges of this world, when they seem like dark shadows looming over us and our struggles threaten to block our view:

Dry our tears and wipe our faces. Give us a glimpse of You and our eternity with You. Shine Your light upon us, and hold us tight today.

In Your wonderful name, Jesus, Amen.
