Do you ever feel like your life is like living in a basement, and you keep looking for the trap door to find your way out? Like your heart and hope are on the floor, your elevator is broken and you have no way to go up? Like help is too far away and distant, your raft is leaking and you are sinking, and the waves still keep coming? Do you ever feel so helpless that all you can do is cry? And you wonder why it all has to be so hard? Where you’re just so exhausted and weary, and have no answers. And even your faith seems so little and weak, so beaten, tattered and worn, that you’re searching for even a flicker of light to be seen? While you wait to be rescued and for relief to come, and come quickly. And you feel so alone?
I am reminded of the words of Job.
“And now my life seeps away.
Depression haunts my days.”
(Job 30:16)
Thankfully our story doesn’t end here. 👈
But instead, we have been given a precious promise,
we can truly count on here:
“But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
(Lamentations 3:21-23.)
“In 1 Chronicles 16:11 we are invited to:
“Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.”
Lord, help quiet our hearts that we may hear Your voice, hush the storm within us. Calm us with Your presence and peace; Speak life, hope and truth to us I pray. 🙏🏻 May you sense His presence, feel His love and hear His voice quietly speaking to your heart through these words today. May you know just how precious you are to Him.
Are you tired and weary? Do you feel exhausted and alone?
Come take a look up here, come see your Savior’s face.
Come view the riches of heaven and see your new home.
Leave all your troubles down here below and the things that entangle you. Know that freedom awaits you and the time will come when you shall be set free. Hold onto hope, I am with you and holding your hand. Come take a look up here.
My life I breathe into you, My strength I give to you. My peace surrounds you. You do not walk alone, I know your heartbeat, I hear your cry. I never ignore your sigh. Come take a look up here, come see your Savior’s face, your life is hidden in Mine.
You are My child and you belong to Me, whatever you face I am with you. Do not let your heart be overwhelmed by what you see, know that I am here.
I am the one who keeps you, you are My treasure and you are inscribed upon My hand. Oh, weary heart and tired soul, come take a look up here, come see My face and you will find rest. Leave your burden here, I will carry you, I will fight the battle for you. Lean upon Me, rest your weary head upon Me and I will shoulder it.
Come take a look up here, come see your Savior’s face.
Come behold My love, come sit awhile with Me,
draw near and let me hold you close and dry your tears.
“O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear.”
(Psalm 10:17)
So many times, this verse here below has been like a beacon of hope in the darkness to me, an anchor for my soul while everything else seemed so overwhelming to me that I felt lost.
“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would
see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your
heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.”
(Psalm 27:13-14)
“When you and I hurt deeply, what we really need
is not an explanation from God but a revelation of God.
We need to see how great God is; we need to recover our lost perspective on life. Things get out of proportion when we are suffering, and it takes a vision of something bigger than ourselves to get life’s dimensions adjusted again.” - Warren W. Wiersbe
“For You light my lamp;
The LORD my God illumines my darkness.” (Psalm 18:28)
“Job 26:7 — “He . . . hangs the earth on nothing.”
“Who but God could take nothing and hang the world on it? Isn’t this just how the Lord helps us—in a way that is beyond our understanding and imagination? Although we see no solution to our problems and have no way to handle them on our own, God has a way. He can make a solution where there was none before. We cannot possibly know the extraordinary manner by which God is going to work on our behalf; however, we should always trust and obey Him, being sure that He will.” Charles F. Stanley
“Job 26:14 — “Behold, these are the fringes of His ways; and how faint a word we hear of Him! But His mighty thunder, who can understand?”
“The greatest forces in nature give nothing but the tiniest hint of God’s immeasurable power. And yet He makes all that power available to us through prayer!” Charles F. Stanley
“Earth’s crammed with Heaven, and every common bush afire with God, but only he who sees takes off his shoes.” ― Elizabeth Barrett Browning
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh.
Is there anything too hard for Me? (Jeremiah 32:27)
But He said, “The things which are impossible
with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)
"All our fret and worry is caused by calculating
without God" - Oswald Chambers
― Oh how familiar sounding this truth really is!!
We can spend so much time looking at the problems, and get so
caught up in trying to find solutions or a way out, that our worries
or concerns, steal our peace and rob us of our joy and strength.
“Worry is to joy what a Hoover vacuum cleaner is to dirt: might as
well attach your heart to a happiness-sucker and flip the switch.”
― Max Lucado
―I love both the truth and humor in this statement,
and its wonderful reminder to us!!
I find this example from David’s playbook so helpful: “Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. ”For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.” Selah. (Psalm 61:1-4)
I love the lessons we can learn from David’s life;
it doesn’t say he was never afraid, no instead we see
him saying “when I am afraid I will trust in You”
It doesn’t say he never felt overwhelmed,
but instead we see him pouring out his heart
and expressing his need to God in this way,
“When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
This gives us so much hope and encouragement
for our situations. Oh, how God knows and
understands the needs of our hearts and souls.
What a comfort this is!
Note David’s words here from Psalm 62,
and how applicable they are too.
“Truly my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.
My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense; I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory;
The rock of my strength, And my refuge,
is in God.”
Trust in Him at all times, you people;
Pour out your heart before Him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah
(Psalm 62:1,2, 5-8 )
Our circumstances or situations may be different
from David’s or from one another’s, But our God
is the same.
…. And He doesn’t change.
“He is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
Therefore, the same God who helped David,
Will also help you and I.
Jesus said “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)
… “Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Isn’t that the truth).
Why did Jesus say this? Because He knows we are prone to worry! “Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength – carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength.” ― Corrie Ten Boom
Today may we heed the words of Jesus, and implement the scriptures as David did.
For God will give us the grace we need, in the moment we need it. He is so incredibly faithful, worthy of our praise, and completely deserving of our trust. May the Lord help each of us today, in our individual battles, to “Trust in Him at all times…pour out our heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” May God bless you and keep you in His tender loving care today, and always.
