John 5:7 Alone in time of need

The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” I love the Lord’s compassion here. (V8) Jesus *said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.” (V9) Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. God is the one person who is always there for us in our time of need. I love the way Jesus always sought out the person with the greatest need. How He exhibited so much compassion and care to the lost and hurting, sick or wounded. This man had no one, then Jesus walks in and everything changes. There’s not a single soul He passes over or overlooks; not a single heart that hurts without Him knowing about it.
It’s why He came; it’s why He sacrificed Himself on the cross and in our place. The
depths of His compassion cannot be measured or weighed nor can His goodness be. This lonely, hurting man who was all alone, sick and without a friend – I’m sure our Savior was already intimately acquainted with his suffering. He had seen all of his days, nights – his sorrow, suffering and struggles and all those who had passed him by. But Jesus had always known and always seen him and on this day had chosen to meet with him and personally touch his need. Love walked into his world that day and freed him. And what a glorious day and moment it was for him as He saw Jesus. What an incredible testimony this beloved of God man now had. What a glorious opportunity he now had to give thanks and lift up the name of Jesus.
I think about this quote by Saint Augustine how “God loves each one of us, as if there is only one of us” It is so true. God sees and knows each of us; our stories, sorrow, joy or pain.
He is there for us too; if we will let Him, if we will acknowledge and trust Him, if we will come to Him. Thank God He comes to us, when we can’t come to Him or when we have no one to help put us in the pool. Great is the heart of God.
Great is His love and compassion.
Great is His goodness, mercies and
kindness toward us. Great is His faithfulness. We have so much comfort & hope for our situation, and for our needs.
We never know when God will walk in and do the impossible for us. Maybe it will be one day in heaven when we hear the words… “Pick up your pallet and walk” or thorn in the flesh be gone; sorrow and suffering cease, tears be no more. It is coming, you know… be comforted my friend~ For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper.
Psalm 72:12 I will rejoice and be glad in Your lovingkindness, Because You have seen my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul.
Psalm 31:7 You, O Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me.
Psalm 40:11
